MEDIA ADVISORY: Chinese-American Census Partners and Community Leaders Discuss Next Phase of 2010 Census
April 27, 2010

NEW YORK -- (U.S. ASIAN WIRE) -- The U.S. Census Bureau, together with local Census partners in the Chinese-American community will hold a press conference today at 3:30pm, at the Chinese American Center in New York City, to discuss the "non-response follow-up" (NRFU) enumeration phase of the 2010 Census. The press conference will provide information in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
Beginning May 1, census takers will go door to door to collect information from households that did not return their census form. The enumeration phase is a crucial step to achieve a full and accurate count, and it is important for community groups to remain active in the process. At this forum, Census representatives, Census partners, local officials and community leaders will encourage their constituents to open their doors and cooperate with census takers.
WHEN: Tuesday, April 27, 2010 3:30pm
WHERE: Chinese Community Center

About the 2010 Census
The 2010 Census is a count of everyone living in the United States and is mandated by the U.S. Constitution to be conducted every 10 years. Census data are used to apportion congressional seats to states; to distribute more than $400 billion in federal funds to local, state, and tribal governments each year; and to make decisions about what community services to provide. The 2010 Census form will be one of the shortest in U.S. history and consists of just 10 questions, taking about 10 minutes to complete. Strict confidentiality laws protect the respondents and the information they provide.
