May 08, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO—(U.S. ASIAN WIRE)— During Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, AsianWeek announced Nikki Nguyen Cranor as the newspaper's new director of advertising and associate publisher. The nation's largest circulation Asian newspaper hired Ms. Nguyen Cranor to help implement AsianWeek's new initiatives to build upon and expand AsianWeek's strong base of print and online readers and advertisers. These initiatives include a focus on addressing the needs of Asian professionals, and maximizing the potential of Asian Pacific Americans to promote cultural ties and business interests in both the U.S. and Asia.

"As a business woman and media professional, Nikki is the perfect combination to help advertisers tap into the huge buying power of the Asian American market. Nikki will be a huge asset for AsianWeek and all Asian Pacific America," states Ted Fang, AsianWeek Publisher & Editor.

A 1.5 generation Vietnamese American, Ms. Nguyen Cranor represents this population of emerging Asian professionals with local, national and international interests. The 33-year-old comes to AsianWeek from Seattle, Wash. as former editor-in-chief of the International Examiner, an Asian American journal, and development director of Wing Luke Asian Museum, a pan-Asian American museum.

"This is an exciting time to be in Asian media as the Asian American landscape shifts from a post-civil rights identity to a multicultural, trans-Pacific identity," said Ms. Nguyen Cranor, who studied Asian American issues at Macalester College and Southeast Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore . "My hope is to help shape AsianWeek to reflect this shift and to promote the potential of the untapped Asian Pacific American market that has grown to an economic buying power of $427 billion."
