White House to Host Conference Call with Secretary Locke and University Presidents on the DREAM Act
December 02, 2010
WASHINGTON -- (U.S. ASIAN WIRE) -- On Friday, December 3, 2010, at 10:00 AM EST, the White House will host an on-the-record conference call with Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke to discuss the DREAM Act, and why it's important to our nation's competitiveness in todayÕs global economy. Secretary Locke will be joined on the call by the President of Regent University Dr. Carlos Campo, UCLA Chancellor Dr. Gene Block, and the President of Miami-Dade College Dr. Eduardo Padron. The DREAM Act establishes a lengthy and rigorous process for young people who grew up in the United States to obtain legal status by either pursuing a higher education or by serving in the U.S. armed forces. The DREAM Act was written by both Republicans and Democrats and has long enjoyed support from both sides of the aisle, passing twice out of the Senate Judiciary Committee with bipartisan votes. |
